OK, so I admit, not a very impressive showing on paper by the US soccer team. What really killed everyone, me included, was a blase effort in the first game. That truly was their only very poor game, in my opinion. The Czechs are good, but not THAT good. Cmon. So, then we follow that with one of the best results in the history of US World Cup soccer, a tie with Italy while being down 9 men to 10 for most of the second half. We absolutely dominated the game until the referees went Saddam on us. Lastly, a good effort against Ghana, but honestly, there wasn’t enough gas in the tank after the game before. To the casual fan, let me tell you Ghana is for REAL. I’m not kidding you. I don’t think they’re deep enough, but they are talented and precocious enough to do some damage. I think Arena’s biggest mistake was bringing Claudio Renya, the most overhyped player ever in the US, along for the ride. He, at this point, is completely worthless. I didn’t see him make a single standout play the entire time. He roams the midfield at half speed and doesn’t play aggressively enough at this level. Kudos to Brian McBride though, on a great effort, especially for an old man. (yes, i’ll plug it again, we played against him back in the day).
Anyhow. I get frustrated with the media, especially in chicago. Definitely a dissapointing result, but not the failure that MLBSPN and the rest of the soccer hating american public wants to make it out to be. Don’t worry, you can now go back to your regularly scheduled steriod-rape-shooting-bling-bling NBANFLMLB trial brought to you nightly on American TV.

OH, and did anyone else happen to catch the absolute ballsiest and most hilarious guest appearance ever at a Cubs game when Jeremy Piven said to the crowd during the 7th inning, “Let’s hug it out you bitches”. Apparently a line from his HBO series. HILARIOUS. I tell you what, if I don’t off myself first, this will be the longest and worst stretch of Cubs baseball I have ever witnessed. Don’t get me started. We need more HUMOR people. I’m first in line;)
